Duties Description These positions will be responsible for the preparation and painting of numerous internal and external surfaces within and around the campus as directed by the Maintenance Assistant or Supervisor. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting in assembling scaffolding/ladders, covering trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint; setting up fans and other safety equipment to protect from unhealthy fumes; preparing surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty, and sanding them until they’re smooth; applying primer and paint to surfaces using basic tools; removing old paint using scrapers; cleaning machines, equipment and work areas using water, solvents and other cleaning aids; removing and reinstalling fixtures such as doorknobs and electric switch covers; and properly cleaning work area and equipment at the end of each task. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training will be required. -Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive state vehicles with proper authorization

Additional Comments These positions will perform semi-skilled activities in preparing surfaces and applying coats of paint, varnish, and other finishes and stains to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces and fixtures of building structures, furniture and equipment. These positions are within the Maintenance & Operations department which is responsible for processing all work order requests received and handling them accurately and timely. We are part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. The shift for this position is Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. These temporary positions for the summer are expected to begin in mid-May and end in mid-August.
