Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.
The Digital Information Officer will be tasked with establishing and executing social media strategies and website redesign, development and maintenance. The incumbent will report to the ITS Chief Communications Officer and work closely with the Assistant Director of Communications and other ITS communications staff. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Work closely with agency program areas to identify, create and post content, including written copy, photos, graphics and video, for digital channels and social media (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube).
• Manage and grow agency social media channels to build and promote ITS accomplishments, promote cybersecurity awareness, and build a content strategy to support and promote the mission and vision of the agency.
• Set and meet goals for agency social media channels, as well as develop analytic reports for senior staff. Goals include increasing LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook audiences and engagement, optimizing the effectiveness of social media reach and building relationships with other NYS agencies and authorities/relevant accounts by liking and sharing relevant content.
• Create a strategy for interaction with users that is in line with the NYS social media guidelines. Stay informed on current best practices for every channel.
• Oversee and maintain website content, including making requested content edits and verifying that all content follows best practices, including branding and accessibility guidelines.
• Liaise with agency executive staff for all digital communications needs, including facilitating new/existing website and applications projects.
• Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with various ITS programs, including the state’s Digital team, WebNY and agency-level web and applications teams.
• Stay up to date on current best practices for websites, including the latest WCAG guidelines.
• Provide support to photography and videography staff. Perform supervisory responsibilities and other communications office support as needed.
• Perform full range of supervisory duties.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, Graphic Design or similar; and five (5) years of experience in digital communications, public relations, and social media.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of best digital practices, including experience with web writing; website management; graphic design; UX/UI best practices, including WCAG guidelines; and knowledge of applying a customer service approach to web, social media and online interfaces. Some experience with HTML is a plus.
Additional Comments The salary of this position is commensurate with experience and education. A background check and fingerprinting will be required.
